Horror Web Series

Halloween is a time where the Americans dress up goofily and scare people into giving them free stuff. In India, we call that politics. This day of the dead has been catching up in our country for the past few years and here we are jumping on the bandwagon, until it is declared anti-national of course. I’ve included all the spooky web series released up till now, just four to be exact, and hope am in hope that this genre grows next year. Good horror has been missing in Indian media in general, and we hope the web series market would pick up mantle.

  1. Cartoon

Man, Hoichoi has dropped a mother-load of Bengali web series on us. This one, Cartoon, is a web series about  a cartoonist who finds that the new apartment they have moved into is haunted. Pretty standard premise, I haven’t watched it yet as I think hoichoi has put all their stuff beyond a paywall. The trailer looks intriguing and spooky, just what it needs to be. Give this a shot or check out other Bengali web series, if that’s up your alley. Bhalo?

  2.  Phir Se Ramsay

The Ramsay brothers were a sex-horror producing machine back in the old days and they are back again. The stories are presented in anthology and each one has the cheesy 80’s Bollywood feel that we weren’t allowed to watch as kids when it aired on TV. If you’re an adult now, you’re in the right demographic to watch this. The poster is just a masterpiece, I must add. Also check out 101 India’s other content. These guys pump out greatness on a weekly basis.

  3. Ragini MMS Returns

The poster for this is one of those ‘until-you-see-it’ types.  The Ragini MMS franchise is a continuous money making machine for the folks at Balaji and it proves once again in the web series format.  I don’t know what it is about mixing sex and horror but I guess that’s what people are craving for. If you’re gonna watch this, make sure the screen is tilted a bit for some stuff goes down in this. I mean real raunchy stuff (Okay, full confession, I haven’t watched it, but it looks like it could be one of that category.)

  4. 101 Great Indian Ghost Stories

This one’s unique in that it follows real seen/heard stories. The 101 India series spans across the length and breadth of India to score out some spooky stories. If you’re watching just one of these, I suggest this one. It is an anthology, so the stories aren’t connected. You can pick and choose as you see fit.
